Sustainable Mining of Critical Minerals calls for collective efforts - TEVETA

TEVETA Director General, Cleophas Takaiza, has called for collective efforts to develop relevant technical and essential skills for sustainable mining of critical raw materials. 

And Mr. Takaiza said the Mining Sector Skills Development Strategy and Skills Advisory Group (SAG) that have been established with support from the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the European Union were vital pillars in developing a competitive workforce for the mining sector in Zambia.

The TEVETA Director General, Cleophas Takaiza has urged training institutions to take advantage of the coming of Artificial Intelligence (AI) to improve the delivery of skills training.

Mr. Takaiza said the coming of AI should help institutions to be more productive and efficiency in the delivery of lessons because AI has provided smarter ways of doing things. He said AI has provided options and recommendations for better ways of doing things, hence the need to embrace and utilize it for better ways of doing business in the training and skills development value chain.

TEVET curricula to mitigate climate change challenges launched

TEVETA and partners have developed 19 curricula that seek to address challenges posed by climate change across economic sectors and to increase productivity through mindset change. The curricula were launched today by the Minister of Technology and Science Felix Mutati.

The priority curricula included Irrigation Systems, Solar Energy for Agriculture, Ground Water Exploration, Mapping and Drilling Operations and Borehole Drilling, Farm Management and Animal Husbandry. Technical Education,Vocational and Entrepreneurship Training Authority (TEVETA) through the TEVET Fund has today signed Human Resource Development (HRD) contracts with seven training institutions to upskill 23 trainers in various programmes.

Over K1.8 million will be spent to upgrade qualifications to Degree and Technologist programmes in the areas of Mechatronics Engineering, Design and Technology, Building Construction, Teaching Methodology, Hospitality Management, Animal Science, Heavy Equipment Repair and Automotive Engineering.

Technology and Science Minister Felix Mutati has implored young people graduating from higher learning institutions to be innovative, by venturing into entrepreneurship activities and not wait for white collar jobs.
