The Committee on Education, Science and Technology of the National Assembly of Zambia today visited TEVETA to appreciate the implementation of the two-tier system and the broad skills development landscape in line with the priority the Government has placed on skills for job and wealth creation.
Committee Chairperson, Hon. Harry Kamboni (MP) said vocationalisation of education is among strategic reforms by Government aimed at improving the quality of skills among young people for them to effectively participate in the economy.

TEVETA has signed apprenticeship contracts with Bell Equipment Zambia worth K8.4 million in earthmoving equipment. The apprenticeship contracts are in line with the mining sector productivity and energy transition aspirations of the country.
TEVETA Director General, Cleophas Takaiza commended Bell Equipment for taking up a second cohort of apprentices to support the national Work Based Learning (WBL) framework. TEVETA Director General, Cleophas Takaiza has urged local authorities to build capacities of their skills training centres to absorb more youths, help address community skills needs and enhance income generation at different economic levels.
Speaking when courtesy call on Ndola City Council Town Clerk, Mr. Takaiza said investing in infrastructure, training equipment, tools and up-skilling trainers in the centres would improve the quality of skills among the youths for them adequately take up community projects and effectively participate in the economy.

TEVETA has signed work-based training and apprenticeship contracts with 22 employers worth K70 million. The contracts will benefit more than 4, 300 employees in mining, energy (solar and hydro), manufacturing and mineral processing, ICT, and various essential skills.

Zambia’s first cohort of 16 apprentices in toolmaking at the Production Technologies Association of South Africa (PtSA) Centre of Excellence was sent-off by the Minister of Technology and Science last month. Speaking during the send-off breakfasting, Minister of Technology and Science, Hon. The Government is investing in empowering youths with appropriate skills and competences to enable them effectively to contribute to the economic development of the great nation. Skilled youth are a critical workforce to produce goods and services in different sectors of the economy.
