TEVETA has procured training equipment worth more than K1 million to National Vocational Rehabilitation Centre (NVRC) to modernise the workshops.

The equipment was handed over to the training institution at the sidelines of the 2026 Zambia International Trade Fair today.

Speaking during the handover, TEVETA Board chairperson Ngoza Nkwabilo said the intervention demonstrated the authority’s commitment to inclusive and equitable skills development. “We believe that every Zambian deserves the opportunity to acquire relevant skills, participate productively in the economy and contribute to national development,” Mrs. Nkwabilo added.

She said the support was through the TEVET Fund, which served as TEVETA's strategic financing vehicle for improving training systems, modernising equipment and tools, building trainer capacity and implementing other interventions in the TEVET sector.

The Fund draws resources from the Skills Development Levy (SDL), a contribution that enables continued investment in skills development for the benefit of the nation.

And TEVETA Director General Cleophas Takaiza said modern equipment and assistive technologies played a critical role in increasing participation, improving learning outcomes and ensuring that persons with disabilities were not excluded from emerging economic opportunities.

Mr. Takaiza said the integration of assistive technologies such as the JAWS software would enable visually impaired learners to participate more effectively in digital learning and ICT-related training.

The equipment procured for NVRC is for tourism and hospitality, ICT and garment construction programmes. Others are for JAWS assistive software for the visually impaired learners to access digital learning materials, participate effectively in ICT training and improve their learning experience.

TEVETA procured equipment for Gemstone Processing and Lapidary Training Centre for K11 million to support the gemstone sub-sector.

The initiative aims to strengthen technical skills, promote local value addition, create employment opportunities and reduce the export of unprocessed gemstones, thereby increasing the sector’s contribution to economic growth.

Meanwhile, NVRC Principal Mary Kamanga commended TEVETA for investing in the institution to improve the quality of training actualise inclusion aspirations of the country.
