ZESCO Ltd has placed100 internship opportunities to gain hands-on industry experience. The interns from TEVET were placed across the company's power stations nationwide.
The internship programme is implemented in partnership with TEVETA, which is supporting the interns with stipends, social protection and personal protective equipment (PPE). The internship support is funded through the TEVET Fund using proceeds from the Skills Development Levy (SDL).
The investment demonstrates strategic interventions in youth skills development and workforce readiness. The initiative aims to enhance the employability of young people by equipping them with practical competencies and real-world exposure in a professional work environment.
Bridging the gap between classroom training and industry practice prepares the youth for a smoother transition into the labour market.
The interns were recruited through TEVET institutions to ensure alignment between training programmes and industry needs. Twenty-six percent (26%) of the selected interns are female in line with national efforts to promote gender inclusion and participation in technical fields.
TEVETA continues to strengthen partnerships with industry stakeholders to expand Work-Based Learning (WBL) opportunities. These include internships, apprenticeships, and industrial attachments aimed at building a skilled, competent and employment-ready workforce that contributes to national development.
