Zambia, Malawi move to build capacity in Electric Vehicles and Electric Motorbikes training

Capacity building for lecturers to take up Electric Vehicles and Electric Motorbikes  (E-mobility) training programmes in Zambia and Malawi has commenced under the EcoCharge Project.

Early this year, TEVETA Zambia, TEVETA Malawi ,Don Bosco Zambia and Don Bosco Malawi together with partners from Europe, Italy and spain received funding under the EcoCharge Project whose focus is e-mobility and skills development. The Project is funded by the European Union (EU) and Eramus Plus Programme. 

Speaking when he kicked off the pilot trainer of trainer workshop at Don Bosco Malawi Lilongwe, Aleandro Camora Barbara one of the facilitators and expert trainers from Centro San Viator of Spain said the curriculum has been developed.

Mr. Barbara said ten modules have been developed for the EcoCharge Project and that the trainers that have been drawn from Don Bosco Zambia and Don Bosco Malawi  have knowledge in electrical and mechnical Engineering whose feedback will be critical in the implementing the project.

He said the team is conducting training sessions with lecturers to build capacity for them as implementers of the project who will be training the students in e-mobility using the modules that have been developed.

“We believe that the EcoCharge Project is an inportant undertaking especially now that the World is faced with climate change, air pollution, the high cost of peteronum projects among others hence the call to switch to e-mobility,” Mr Barbara said.

Ten modules have been deveopled for the E-Mobility programme namley Project introduction and bacic electricity while Module 2 focuses on Electrical measurement practices. Module 3 is on Alternator, Module 4 on Elements connection and Module 5 on Batteries theory.  Module 6 is on Battery Assembly, Module 7 on Bike Structure, Module 8 on Bike Integration, Module 9 on Maintenance and Safety and lastly Module 10 Testing and future lines.
